"Puuc I & Puuc II"As an opening event, the Eclectico Artspace Gallery called for a group exhibition of 13 photographers, to which I was invited. Following the idea of "constructions" I prepared two medium-sized pieces taking inspirational images of a trip I made to the land of the Maya, the two pieces are unpublished photos that will be exhibited for the first time.

Memento Mori
SITEUR, Juarez Station. Guadalajara, MX
Prior to the day of the dead, and as part of the celebration of our loved ones already deceased. I was invited to intervene a skull that was given to me by the coordinator of the project, in which more than 30 local artists are participating. The show was installed at the Juarez Station Gallery of SITEUR (Electric Train Urban Sistem) , being one of the busiest stations located at the junction of the two major avenues that define the downtown area. "El Argonauta", encaustic, natural fibers, oil, graphite powder and metal. MMXVI |

Homage to Frida Kahlo
Centro Cultural Gabriel García Marques
Bogota, Colombia.
Bogota, Colombia.
I had the honor of being invited by the FCE to exhibit at its headquarters in Bogota, Colombia and develop a piece explicitly for the "Frida Kahlo" Homage exhibition. Project that gave me the freedom to seek and play with new elements and ideas within my creative process. Being such a specific idea and without wishing to fall into a cliche, I decided to experiment through photography this new trend of "Gender Bending" and the result are these two pieces that will be displayed at the exhibition.

The Rift Valley - Year Two
The Rift Valley
In the restlessness and questioning about my my creative and personal process; where I am, where I'm going and I'm doing in this new stage of my life, I decided to take a trip to Africa - Bungoma in Kenya - with the idea of helping to build houses under the Habitat for Humanity project.
The experience was enriching and unique, where I had the opportunity to interact with people in a difficult life situation but with a great spirit and extreme joy, incredible !!! Upon the project with Habitat I extended my stay in those places to go on a photo safari to the Serengeti natural reserve in northern Tanzania and southern Kenya in the Masai region. It was the incredible beauty of the place where the deep history of humanity began and the warmth of the Masai, the inspiration for the creation of this new body of work that now present here in Guadalajara; a series of unpublished photographs in black and white with two large format paintings and objects, together with original pieces of African art from my personal collection. The exhibition and opening reception will be held on November 12th, at Metta Coworking, home to PAS Foundation Headquarters, which thankfully invited me, providing the facilities to present this exhibition. Year Zero
|
Year Zero The serie of paintings that I am presenting are the first stage of a body of work that comes from my permanent return to Mexico. After closing an important circle of my life in the USA and resumed life in Guadalajara - for the past 11 months - I have been conforming and experimenting with a number of elements that have joined my pictorial language, all referencing to this new stage of my life; where I am, where I go and what influences me / interests me at any given time. And while I navigate the ever changing landscape between past and future, I redefine my position before my work. The elements I incorporate are extracted from the everyday life, urban, religion and my childhood in this city that over the years has change substantially and still finding some of my childhood memories. Likewise my approach to the technique becomes less formal, freer! The collection titled Year Zero will increase to form what will be a great traveling exhibition premiering next year 2014 here in the city of Guadalajara. |

I was honored by being asked to be part of the group of artists for the digital/printed book project that Catherine Nash artist & friend is making. The interview was via Skype, she in Tucson and I in Guadalajara. Very exciting sharing my work with such an array of american and international artists. Looking forward to the completion of the project.
February 2012
I designed the invite for this exhibit - as I did for the last 2 shows- unfortunately since I am taking a Sabbatical, and going to my new studio in Mexico I won't be able to attend the opening reception, still a large triptych will be featured at the show.

Even I ventured in the use other mediums; the core of my work's technique is "encaustic".
Unfortunately the physical finish of the work is not visible through photos.
I encourage anyone whom likes the media to look up-closer to works made with this technique. The translucency, texture and layering that can be achieved is amazing.
WASHINGTON DC / HIRSHORN
I had the opportunity to visit the Hirshorn museum and see a video installation piece by Beat Streuli's titled Broadway/Prince street, I have followed his work for several years, and have inspired me in a few projects of my own.
